Watercolor Batik on Ginwashi Rice Paper - Butterfly on a Leaf
The design of a butterfly on a leaf is painted with layers of watercolor washes gradually building color and depth and is accented with iridescent paints. Each painting is unique and one of a kind. Upon drying the image was affixed to a 8X8 wooden canvas for display purposes.
Batik is a process utilizing wax as a resist while building on layers of thinned watercolor paints on Ginwashi rice paper to create depth and interest. The key to a successful painting is patience and layering of color and wax until the entire design is complete. The process is time consuming but so worth it when the wax is removed exposing soft layers of color and wax marks.
